This blog is an effort to create a comprehensive website on the Mattapan high school issue and those community groups and activists working to build it.
For many years Boston, and Mattapan, have sorely been in need of new schools.
A 1996 study revealed a shortage of 1,100 high school seats in the City of Boston and recommended that Boston build two new high schools. Boston has a current deficit ofapproximately 5,000 high school seats.
Nearly 3,000 residents, community activists, and ACORN members signed a 2004 petition, urgingthe Boston City Council to take initiative in building the new high school on twenty acres of land that had been designated by the City of Boston and the State of Massachusetts for the new high school.
