Acorn Email

Boston Supporters....ACORN and community families have been working to get a high school in Mattapan. We need phone calls, emails and letters to go out to The Mayor of Boston and our new Governor to help push them to see the importance on this issue.
MATTAPAN DESERVES A HIGH SCHOOL.
1. Every other neighborhood in Boston has a high school except Mattapan
2. The high schools are overcrowded so opening up a new school will help our students and teachers
3. Over 3,000 families signed up to support this issue
Check out the Blog that our Dorchester ACORN Members Hassan Thomas created and help us win this issue!

Due to CL sever errors I cant seem to repost this the way it should be.

Please see the original at http://mattapanhighschool.blogspot.com/

This time the request is for button, banners, wallpapers, e-cards and anything else artistic based on the theme of getting a much deserved, long overdue (10 years!) high school built in Mattapan.

The art will be uploaded to flickr and the best of it will be used on the website. You will receive credit and acknowledgment for your hard work!

There is a blog explaining the issue now.

Hopefully we'll get more added to it and document the campaign there as well.

Posting Problems at Craiglist.

My Posts aren't showing up in the categories where I post them; no one can see them.

Craigslist is aware of the error (and I guess, content to wait forever to get it fixed).

206: eff fieve - Brief posting outages
Updated Sat, Jun 16 - 11:11 PDT We've had some intermittent problems with our load balancers that prevent any new ads from being posted. We are waiting for a fix from the vendor who makes the hardware. Hopefully we'll have a solution soon so that our pagers will stop going off. Uff.

This cannot be allowed to stop the juggernaut that is the Mattapan High School!

Therefore; http://www.google.com/search?q=craigslist+alternative&sourceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1B3GGGL_enUS221US221&aq=t&aq=t

As you can see, the new posting is a hybrid of the first two; probably what is should have been anyway.

For many years Mattapan has sorely been in need of a high school. A parcel of land has been donated but, for lack of political will, no action has been taken to develop this parcel and build this high school.

A conservative estimate of how long this issue has been stalled would be 10 years.

I am currently gathering all the data that I can in an effort to create a comprehensive website on the Mattapan high school issue and those community groups and activists working to build it.

I hope this site will create awareness, and that it will also be a source of funding for those groups and for this project.

Mattapan STILL Needs A High School!- Craigslist posting

http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/cpg/380702419.html

I Think we'll leave this ad up for the full thirty days CL allows, but just in case, its archived here as of now.

We had a great response from designers for our Mattapan High School Website posting.

Thanks everyone who read the posting and offered to help!

Craigslist posting.

In future I will archive the craigslist postings here. What is below is similar to my original request for assistance on craigslist.

Having gotten a great response, I'm going to put up postings for a flash documentary and for original art.

Mattapan Needs A High School!

Busy day of research and discussion with web designers. The Mattapan High School website should be going live withing the next 14 days, hopefully a lot sooner.

These are some of the questions I'm looking to get answered for the site:

Councilor Yancey
recently sent a letter to Governor Patrick on the issue of a high school for Mattapan. I would like a copy if possible. I would also like to know what response, if any,
has been given and who else signed this letter.

Who keeps the relevant statistics on education infrastructure needs for Boston, the state and the federal government?

Councilor Yancey has arrived at a figure of $105 million for the construction of Mattapan's high school; how does he arrive at this sum?

Is there any corresponding or supporting data for this figure?

Can private funds be raised/used?

Who would the contact person be for arranging private donations?

What local groups are involved?

Who are the strongest allies of this project?

What is the next action that needs to be taken?

Who are the strongest opponents, if any?

Why do they oppose a high school for Mattapan?

Ive discovered a couple of great grassroots sites that I'm hoping our site will take after:

http://www.greenmyapple.org/

http://www.savetheinternet.com/

I've Also begun reading "A Legal Guide To Starting And Managing A Non Profit Organization"

Pretty good so far. Tip; buy a used copy!
